At Spank! we love our comedy and decided to review some shows at the Edinburgh festival this year. Here are a selection of the ones we thought were worth the 5 star treatment.

Neil Cole: Neil by Mouth

Cabaret Voltaire 18:15  Buy tickets here

I loved this show! It started at 100 miles an hour and didn't let up for one moment. Just imagine the love child of Jon Bon Jovi and Tigger and you have some idea of what it is like watching this relentlessly funny guy. He takes us on an hilarious journey through stories of driving to gigs, robins, draining and his obsession with the word 'flush', barely pausing for breath the whole way. I defy anyone not to giggle their way through this show. So it's a Royal flush from us! 5/5.

Anil Desai is.....

Gilded Balloon Teviot 19:45. Buy tickets here.

....Awesome! I cannot begin to write down the amount of fun I had watching this show. Anil desai has packed his hour with all the things he loves and his infectiously upbeat personality makes it impossible for you not to love them too. Anil is an astonishingly talented impressionist and the show is littered with some of the best and funniest impressions I've ever seen. But highlights for me were definitely Candice The Fluffer Girl (Don't want to give to much away but I almost wet myself when she did her retro dance) and Rajesh The Bollywood Lounge Singer, who's set is simply sublime. This is exactly what the festival is for, getting to see something blisteringly funny, totally unique and packed full of positivity and joy. It's only on for two weeks so don't miss it,  it's the feel good show of the fringe! Definitely 5/5

The Real MacGuffins: Skitsophrenic

Pleasance Courtyard 16:30. Buy tickets here.

The perfect blend of clever and silly. This show is a real Joy! The show is a study into the relationship between comedy and madness and the boys themselves are going mad. One has had a breakdown, one has become overbearing and one disillusioned. This  dysfunction permeates all the sketches until they can no longer continue and... I wont spoil the end. This is a really well crafted show from three gifted performers. If you fancy laughing for an hour, go see this show!! The Real MacDeal!! 5/5
